Guest T120 Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 Can any one please help I have a Galaxy 1.9Tdi and would like to know:- Has any one used Vag Com on the Galaxy, and does it work on all the car or only part of it? Being its basicly a Ford badged VW Sharan. Quote
GSMGuy Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 AFAIK, it will work on the whole vehicle. On a slightly different note, what is the best option for getting VAG-COM, is it to buy a lead from say, Ebay, and then reg the software - ot=r buy the whole kit, and if so, which kit?? Mike Quote
MrT Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 I would say buy the interface and the software separately as you get more choice in what you buy. However many suppliers are now doing "dongle" versions of the interface where the software registration is in the hardware rather than software on the PC. This means you don't need to register the software and can use your interface on more than one computer. You may wish to consider getting an interface with more capabilities (such as Dual K Line support) than required in the Galaxy for use in future cars. Take a look at SK Pangs website. I have an older interface from him and have had good support with issues I have had. Quote
GSMGuy Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 Mr T, was going to order the interface from Ross Tech in the states, but TBH, it's coming out around the Quote
_dg Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 It does not work on mine. It may work on the engine, but arn't some of the internal electronics Ford parts? Quote
GSMGuy Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 Should work on the whole car - it is just a rebadged VW after all! Mike Quote

paulmpaciorek Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 MikeThanks for the advice mate.Keep us posted when you recieve your cable and lets us know how you get on with it . Quote
MrT Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 One thing to consider is that the cable and software will enable you to read off diagnostic codes and program them. However, apart from the standard list of fault codes which are translated into meaningful faults by VAG-COM, the rest of the codes are pretty meaningless. For example if you want to change the way a device works, which programmable unit and what code address do you go to, then what would you set the data bits to? Unless you are lucky and find out where someone has placed a similar procedure for a similar vehicle on the internet, there is a lot of meaningless data there. I would love to have a book that decribes every module and every setting. Quote

GSMGuy Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Rimfire - the Key USB has thedongle which activates the freely downloadable (but very restricted) VAG-COM into the FULL UNLOCKED program, you do not have to pay the $99 for the s/w!!! HTH Mike Quote
Guest T120 Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 AllThanks for all the info I am exploring all avenues. I also did a scan of all addresses from 01 to 7F with Vag Com (which is not registered yet???) which is 120 addresses and only retrieved about 12, is this because its not registered or because its a Ford? Look forward to any more help in the future especialy from someone who's tried it on a 1.9 Tdi. Quote
MrT Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 This means you found 12 control modules which is probably about right. Each of these 12 modules will have many functions. For example the first module will cover virtually every engine function, such as timing, MAF, exhaust recirculation, temperature etc. Also remember not everything is electronic module controlled on the Galaxy. Guest T120 Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 Mr TThanks for that does'nt so bad now. Quote
GSMGuy Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 Rimfire... On the subject of too much money ... I've bought my kit for 2 reasons: 1: I need to turn on the cruise control I have retrofitted, dealer wanted an hours labour!!! This pays for almost half the cost of the kit 2: Bought my car from a reputable but non-franchised dealer, who underwrites his own warranties, and has no exclusions other than tyres, exhausts and brake linings... So eant to make sure the vehicle has no "hidden" faults by checking the fault codes - so I can get them repaired b4 the warranty expires.. Money well spent in my opinion! Mike Quote
Masked Marauder Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 I have a bare PCB sat on my desk that only needs a lead sourcing and the components soldering on. All in it will cost me Quote
GSMGuy Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Right.. Kit arrived - quality gear, good solid connectors and quality cables ;) Software installed, plugged in and Cruise activated... Also found out that the glow plug in my aux heater is open circuit, and my brakelight switch is faulty... Explains a lot! AFAIC, it's already saved me the purchase price... Also good fun tolnight when we went out in my brothers' A4 Tdi130 which is chipped.. Saw a reading of 385 Nm torque @ 2100 rpm.... Awesome! Mike Quote
Guest T120 Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 GSMGUYExcuse my ignorance but what is "AFAIC"? ;) Quote
